Why You'll Love It
Rumours have it the Queen is quite the fan of this delicious sweet aperitif, sipping it in her 'before lunch gin cocktail'. Whether that's true or not, we think you'll agree this fortified sweet wine is pretty yum. It tastes kind of like a sweeter version of Campari, herby, spicy and sweet. Invented by the talented Joseph Dubonnet, the drink was originally intended as a way for French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to drink the very bitter quinine, which, at the time was thought to combat malaria. Today, Dubonnet can be enjoyed on the rocks or follow the Queen's example and throw it in some gin for a cheeky pre-lunch cocktail.
